I can’t say my passion is making books or even telling stories, though I do these things. McCabe suggests, “You love to arrange things,” and I think so what? But then I set up a table for a gathering, choosing a beautiful tablecloth, candles, flowers, and a mood is set, a spell is cast. People enter in and open up. The gesture (I’ve been a dancer after all) that expresses my desire to arrange spaces is beckoning. “Come here, come out.’ In stories this is the gesture of the witch, it is also the gesture of learning (educare means to draw out). I want to make things, arrange things, tell stories, move and preach to entice the spirits and call out your deepest self. Will you feel such comfort or delight or curiosity that you share your own memories, feelings, longings and fears? Yes, this may be the crone inviting you into the dangerous terrain of the deep or maybe it’s a child’s wide-eyed, “Come and see.” I love the movement of the journey and the surprise and the companion so off we go!
